Funds awarded:
$18,800

Project date:
1997

Sponsor:
National Fish and Wildlife Federation

Project Description:
In 1997, SWAG obtained $18,800 in grant funding from the National Fish and Wildlife Federation, as well as additional funds from the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) to implement a streambank stabilization project along a 600 foot segment of critically eroding bank. The bank was stabilized by installation of 11 boulder wing deflectors with rootwads and cobbles placed against the toe of the streambank (to deflect high stream flows away from the bank), as well as installation of a continuous berm with vegetated backfill between the deflectors.

The high eroding banks of Sulphur Creek before stabilization.
